About

The society was founded in 2019 by a Swansea University student, Jean-Louis Button, who is passionate for protecting the environment and is aiming to plant a minimum of 1 000 trees every year to help fight climate change.

Where it all began..

A group of students got together and decided that they wanted their University to start planting trees with their online searches. So they petitioned the IT department to investigate the functionality of switching from Bing and Google to Ecosia, thankfully several months later the green light was given and Ecosia became the default search engine! The next challenge is to switch the second campus (Bay) to use Ecosia as the default search engine too.

Our Vision

We are wanting to plant as many trees as we possibly can in our local area, but also online as well using the Ecosia search engine.

YOU also have the chance to get involved by making the switch yourself with your online searches, signing or becoming a Tree Charter Branch and also helping us to fund other charitable organisations around the globe to plant more trees!

Our current goal

Kilvey Hill

This is our hill. It's a pretty cool place for a picnic, exploring with your friends, mountain biking or just clearing your head! Unfortunately a lot of people like to have BBQ or make a fire which can sometimes get out of hand pretty quickly. This year we had two devastating fires which destroyed a large proportion of our woodland and got extremely close to residential houses, not cool! So this was the point when I thought a Tree society ought to be established so we can help to restore and replenish the lost land, whilst also brining back a sense of community and ownership to the area for the local residents and students.

We are primarily focused on this hill for the time being, but we will be reaching out to more patches of land once we have the resources and time!
